Three young men tragically lost their lives on Tuesday in Manyatta B area, Kisumu county. A group of people suspected them of stealing a motorbike, so they took matters into their own hands.
One of the victims had recently completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams but hadn’t started Form One yet. Another was a recent Form Four graduate, and not much was known about the third person except that they were friends.
The three were forcibly removed from their home on Tuesday morning, severely beaten, and then set on fire in front of their house. They were accused of stealing the motorbike, but one of them begged for mercy, promising to tell the truth. Unfortunately, his pleas were ignored.
Disturbing images and videos showed the charred bodies of the three young men lying on the ground. The incident was reported to Kasagam Police station, and the bodies were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands. It’s a tragic reminder of the dangers of vigilante justice and the importance of allowing the authorities to handle such matters.
