The Ministry of Education has released the official academic term dates and examination schedule for the year 2025, ensuring a well-organized academic year for learners. This comprehensive calendar highlights the key periods for learning, assessments, and holidays, catering to primary, junior, and secondary school students. Below is a detailed breakdown of the term dates and examination timelines.
The 2025 academic year begins with Term 1, which will open on 6th January 2025 and close on 4th April 2025. This term will last for a total of 13 weeks. To allow for rest and rejuvenation, students will take a half-term break from 26th February to 2nd March 2025, lasting five days. Following the end of the term, students will enjoy the April holiday from 7th April to 25th April 2025, providing a three-week break before resuming for the second term.
Term 2 commences on 28th April 2025 and runs for 14 weeks, concluding on 1st August 2025. To ensure students have time to rest mid-term, a half-term break will take place from 25th June to 29th June 2025, lasting five days. After the end of Term 2, the August holiday will provide a three-week break from 4th August to 22nd August 2025, offering ample time for relaxation and preparation for the final term of the year.
The academic year concludes with Term 3, which opens on 25th August 2025 and closes on 24th October 2025. This term spans nine weeks and prepares students for the upcoming assessments and national examinations. As the shortest term of the year, Term 3 is focused on ensuring students are well-prepared for their respective academic milestones.
The assessment period in 2025 is structured to cater to all levels of education. The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will take place from 27th October to 30th October 2025, lasting four days. Similarly, the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will occur between 27th October and 31st October 2025, spanning five days. The Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) are scheduled to run concurrently from 27th October to 6th November 2025, lasting nine days.
For secondary school students, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination will commence on 3rd November 2025 and continue until 21st November 2025, spanning three weeks. This examination period is critical for determining students’ readiness for higher education and professional pathways.
The year concludes with the December holiday, beginning on 27th October 2025 and ending on 2nd January 2026. This holiday extends for ten weeks, allowing students to rest and prepare for the next academic year.
