20 people have been arrested in connection to an incident where a car was stoned in Kitengela after it hit a pedestrian.

They are being held at Kitengela police station, Isinya sub-county in Kajiado.

“The following twenty persons have been arrested to be charged for the offence of malicious damage and assault,” the police OB report read.

Police said the operation was conducted on Friday, January 19, 2024, by the OCS Kitengela.

“Twenty persons have been arrested and twenty-six motorbikes detained at the police station,” the police OB report read.

The twenty persons are alleged to have stoned a vehicle on Thursday in Kitengela town after a vehicle allegedly knocked down a pedestrian in a hit-and-run incident.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver is said to have caused the accident and sped off forcing the riders in the area to give it a chase before catching up with it near Enkare area.

In a short video clip seen by the Star, irate riders are seen stoning the vehicle one after the other in protest.

A traffic police officer was seen trying to control the riders and passersby to stop the act.

The woman driver is said to have abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene as the situation worsened.

“Hii gari ichomwe imeua mtu,” a visibly angry man is heard yelling.

Area police commander Patrick Manyasi declined to comment on the incident.

The driver was to be arraigned in court on Friday, senior officers at the station who cannot be quoted told the Star.
