The African Union Commission (AUC) and the international committee of AFRIMA released the 2021 nominees list on Wednesday.
The list covered over 8,880 songs submitted for adjudication.
It also featured over 400 songs from artistes in the 30 continental and 10 regional categories, cutting across African talents and creatives living on the continent and in the diaspora.
Karun, Nikita Kering, Xenia have been nominated for the Best East African female singers while Sauti Sol, Nviiril, Xenia Mannasseh will go head to head for the Best East African male artiste.
Bensol and Nviri are nominated for the Best African duo group or band while Khaligraph Jones is nominated for the Best African rapper or lyricist.
Hornsphere makes it to the Best artiste, duo or group Pan African Jazz list.
Rash and Tetu Shani are nominated for the Best artiste, duo or group in African Rock, while Shannah is on the Best artiste, duo or group African tradition as Noel Nderitu will compete in the Best female artiste in African inspirational music category.
Ali Mukhwana is nominated for the Best male artiste in African Inspirational music category.
Nikita Kering is also mentioned in the song writer of the year category together with Bensol.
