10 New Police Stations Gazetted by IG Kanja - Kenyans Living It

Ten new police stations and postings have been officially recognized nationwide by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.

The Inspector General of the National Police Service said in a notification published in the Gazette on October 31, 2024, that police stations and posts from Ugunja Sub-County would henceforth be located in Wajir North.

The Chaka Police Station in Kieni East, Nyeri County, is one of the police stations that will be designated. The National Police Service Act No. 11A of 2011 calls for the designation of two additional police stations in Kajiado North Sub-County: the National Police Service Academy and the NPLA Police Station.

Additionally designated were the Sidindi Police Station and the Runogone Police Station in Meru’s Nyaki East sub-county. Just three years after Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi visited the latter when it was completed in 2021, it was designated.

After years of uncertainty because of its unstable position, the Kaptembwo Police Post in Nakuru West is also scheduled to be designated.

Flash floods, which frequently occur in Nakuru West, are one among the many issues that have hindered the police station.

The police post has had significant infrastructure issues, such as the absence of a surrounding wall, which at one time forced officers to work from under a tree.

The Batalu Police post, which was refurbished with a Ksh2,600,000 budget in the war-torn Buna district of Wajir County, is now formally recognized as a designated post where locals may report crimes.

The Qarari Police post, which has supposedly remained unfinished for over ten years, was eventually acknowledged as a designated police post while still in Wajir.

This action was taken a year after Ibrahim Saney, the MP for Wajir North, urged Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to visit his district and assist in finishing the station that had been put on hold.

“There is no fence around this compound. Despite being the public’s first line of defense, police officers themselves are uneasy. On July 30, 2023, the congressman said, “Al Shabaab and wildlife can overrun them at night.”

Additionally selected were the Tulu Roba police station and the Kaaga police post in Nyaki East. Just weeks after former Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki emphasized the infrastructure difficulties security forces in Kenya confront, newly appointed Inspector General Douglas Kanja made his most recent speech.

Kindiki acknowledged that the National Police Service (NPS) was having trouble with a lack of vehicles in police stations, which was one of the main problems preventing police from carrying out their mandate effectively, during an appearance before the National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal Security in September.

In January, Auditor General Nancy Gathungu reported that, in addition to the lack of police cars, only 464 of the 3,000 police property parcels in the nation had title certificates, a situation that reveals land occupied.
